About This Site
Welcome to the web site for boys and girls state basketball records for Minnesota. Information on the lists has been collected since 1994 by Matthew Pederson of Starbuck, Minnesota. While this is not an official site of the Minnesota State High School League, the MSHSL has been provided documentation of the records and they will continue to be consulted throughout the record-collecting process.
Some of the statistics are more easily accepted as state records than others. For instance, points, field goals made, and free throws are kept in an "official book," whereas rebounds, assists, steals, and blocked shots are not. Without a doubt, many outstanding basketball players participated at a place or time when statistics were not compiled. To that extent, it would be presumptuous to state that all categories have the official record from throughout the history of Minnesota high school basketball. However, the numbers listed provide a reference point for players, coaches, and fans from all eras.
Many of the Minnesota records have also qualified for inclusion in the National High School Sports Record Book which is an online publication of the National Federation of State High School Associations (www.nfhs.org). The entries that have already been accepted, or have an application pending, are denoted by "(Nat'l)". Only statistics compiled during varsity competition in grades 9-12 count toward national consideration. Also, minimum attempt requirements are often higher at the national level.
